Life is beautiful!!!
The year 2019 went by so fast & we are already in the 11th month of it. Looking back, I do think my life has been blessed beyond expectations. My son went to India to spend his summer vacation with my mom & siblings. They all missed him so much and I couldn't say no to my mom's request to send him to be with them for the summer. My sister kept sending me pictures via whatsapp to let me know the happenings there.
I busied myself with working extra shifts to keep my mind occupied otherwise I too miss my son. He is already over 17 now but you know our kids are our kids whether they be babies or in their 20s or 30s or whatever age !!! I am pretty sure he is enjoying his time in my home town Imphal. He has his cousins to play with unlike here in Tulsa where he has no other family members except me, lol!!!
This summer I had an invitation to attend the wedding of one of our brethren Mr.Simon Hongsha Maring of Reston,Virginia. I rented a car for the road trip up the East Coast & to DC.My other friends Soreila Baker from Pennsylvania, Peraly Moyon from Texas & Achun Kamei from New York ,would join me later.I drove solo from Tulsa and dropped by Kimbalton in Ohio to visit my naga friend Esther Achumi Dennis , who lost her hubby some months ago.For me, all I could do for her was to visit her personally to show my love & support for a fellow NE Indian sister married to an American.I could feel her pain and the prospect of raising up her 11 year old son by herself was a daunting task but she is very lucky that her hubby's side of the family is very helpful and supportive of her.Bless her heart !!! Her mother was also there with her.It was great to meet her and get to talk to her. She was making fermented soya beans. We NE Indian people just cant live without our ethnic foods ( fermented fish, fermented soyabean, Yongchak ( Petai seeds ),
which are so smelly .......to the folks who are not used to these foods, its pretty gross for them but for us , its million dollar bucks worth of food, believe you me !!!No kidding !!!
I stayed the night @ her place and the next day we all went to another naga lady's house. She lived about an hour away from Esther. I was calculating the distance and good thing my destination from that place was only 5 hours away.I could easily do that!!! We ate yummy lunch ....it was "ek dom " pure joy & happiness when one gets to eat our ethnic foods !!! You get dizzy with so much excitement and you just devour the foods......!!!! I must thank my hosts for their kindness and warmth and hospitality !! I got to meet yet another new friend Sharon who was married to an American. So glad to see her hubby too adjusting and loving to eat our kind of foods .This is what I am talking about !!!! We love our American brothers in laws who love to eat our foods and doesnt mind the strong smells of such foods......I would say to them "Jai Ho" - you are exam passed "!!! He he he !!!!
To be continued......
